INLAND OCEAN

It's been far too long, my dear is an ode to fragility and brokenness. The first half of the piece is a soundscape of sweet harp clusters, a slightly sinister buzzing vibraphone, a repeated piano descent that slowly comes to seem eternal, and a cello that is trying it's best to speak and make sense. While a sort of progress can almost be perceived over this section, there is a sudden shift halfway through that transforms the piece into a sweet lullaby. But the inevitability of the piano still lurks in the background, preventing the music from becoming the most extreme and saccharine version of what it can be. In doing so it adds depth, sincerity and an almost pathetic quality that breaks the heart.

David Lynch has likened consciousness to an ocean. That means we have at least a puddle sloshing around inside each of us. Collectively the puddles, lakes and streams make an inland ocean.
Inland Ocean is not art to be shared in a space – it is the space itself.
Inland Ocean is always itself, yet is never the same work twice: constant identity, constant variety. The performing artists of Inland Ocean bridge vast distances geography, culture, and aesthetics.
